Ethics with Using Play in Therapy
March 3, 2017 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
This professional development training is being presented by Robyn Rausch at the Rio Grande Office (Dr. Pierce’s room). The training will explore issues of ethics that play therapy brings up, different from talk therapy and adult therapy. Attendees will identify principles for approaching ethic issues including confidentiality, touch, and mandatory reporting. The training will also explore issues of self-care to prevent burnout and maintain the therapist’s ability to be effective and work in the best interests of the child.
This training will be discussion oriented. While sharing isn’t required it will be encouraged. Given the topics on touch, mandatory reporting, and ethical dilemmas, therapist’s may hear very difficult stories from one another. Newer therapists in particular may want to be prepared mentally for possibly hearing very difficult and upsetting stories about children and struggles with protecting them. The end of the training does touch on self-care activities for secondary trauma, and of course there will be Dr. Sue Pierce and other therapist’s available for support if they feel overwhelmed by a particular story.
Attendees will receive 3 Ethics CEUs. Space is limited. Please RSVP to Courtney Custer at ccuster@swfamily.com.
